Timothy Part Two

Lws0109

Some fire in the sky at sunset, some action on the trampoline, a sequence of smiles carried on the warm wind. The juxtaposition of expression and mood and a sense of place.

This is what it takes to make the magic happen. And it's embodied in every glimpse from Timothy's portfolio.

What a perfect way to close out the limited edition seniors shoots for the class of 2008.

Timothy and the Graduation Eve Shoot I

You've met principal dancer Timothy through our coverage of Rinat's ballet performances; now, we're presenting his senior portfolio on the eve of upcoming graduation time. And all the elements fell into place on this shoot: the warmest day of the week, a grateful reprieve from the blustery winds as of late...and some choice scenery for our talented man of the hour. Take a look in this intitial post:

Let's Get Funky-Crazy with Brittany!!!

Brt35

...er, in a responsible, fun sort of way, of course.

The title of this post of course refers to the pure joy of being experimental and getting so out-of-the-box that you nearly get lost, as with the image above. But, THAT is where the art happens, each and every time.

The amazing, almost sacred quality of the sunlight, the depth and moodiness of the shadows...and the liberation that Brittany gave me to find the astounding possibilities for innovation at every turn, emerging from iron scrollwork awash in the luminous amber light and winter landscapes dusted with carpets of fresh snow; that's what will remain from this shoot, long after the files are archived and the processors are powered down.

Pure exhilaration. That's what gets me up every morning.

Snowy Winter Wonderland...with Brittany

Brt63_2

And a slight reprisal/encore of autumn too! (hey...the rabbits we can pull of the hat around here are astounding).

And we have a new record! I thought November was our record late season senior portfolio session, with our shoot several months ago. Not so! January 26, with Brittany. 40 degrees in the shade; imagine that in late January in North Dakota. My luck is holding out, for sure!

So, our day with Brittany: loads and loads of laughter, lots of combing the hair back in place on account of a brisk wintry wind, snow in the shoes and the tingle of winter in bare hands, the notably slanting angle of the seasonal sun and those smiling eyes of Brittany's, making frame after frame as memorable as the day itself. Case in point...

Melting the Ice...with Ali

Ali346

It's this way every time out with the camera...and no different on this night. No holding back, courting the artistry, conjuring up the magic. Reveling in the laughter, just letting it happen. Amped up, primed for action, strung out on image-making, for this is my miracle drug. (tip of the hat to U2's Bono, my hero, for that pop-culture reference)

Enter Ali: hockey wizard, goddess, rock star.

Warming Up on the Ice...with Ali

Ali308

So, yeah...you know we're in North Dakota when you get inside the chilled interior of the All Seasons Arena hockey rink and think, wow, it's so nice to get inside into the warmth!

(for those of you reading this out-of-state, it's like twenty below wind chill here and no one, but no one is down with that)

But what a funky spot for more Ali shots: doing the hockey thing, capturing the passion. Climbing narrow catwalks to vantage points, enduring the, shall we say, AROMA of the locker room; hey, it's all in a day's work (or an evening's worth of play, however you look at it).

Enuf from me already. Check out these ragin' shots of Ali.

Shauntay Edition Two

Style, substance, originality, personality. If I'm asked, I will always say that's what it's all about. Case in point: look no further than Shauntay's senior session. Another example of how I'm never satisfied until I've gone completely past all expectations. After all, that's where the artistry happens. Every time.

Shauntay...

This is a new record...my first and only senior portfolio created in November! And, ironically, the weather for this shoot was amazing...sixty degrees and hardly any wind, even better weather than for the October sessions.

We made full use of the weather, capturing a range of beautiful skies and perennial foliage, as well as working with the indoor scenes that define and embody all things Shauntay.

Enjoy our Part One Series from this memorable session:

Bismarck Century Centahnas Volume Two: Welcome to Cat's Crib!!

Cat168z

Cat:

I thot the above image and the title of the post would be totally appropriate for the warm nature of your personality and the way your family has welcomed me into your lives. I think your Mom deserves a medal for photographic assisting, chauffeuring us around and baking some amazing homemade cookies for us on the day of your session! Plus, after feeding me grilled cheese and homemade pea soup on our break during your session, you're going to have a hard time getting rid of me!(ha)

As for your shoot, what can I say? Your expressions were consistent and radiant...and your personality really showed through in your portraits, which means the images are full of warmth and life. I couldn't have asked for a better shoot; in fact, I remember how hard it was for all of us to see the day end!

From the historic buildings and the mind-blowing interior of our dance series location to the fun-loving spontaneity captured at the hay bales and at your 'crib', we had the perfect blend of ideal locations and graceful light to compliment your expressions. I can't ask for any more out of a session; what a perfect way to spend a sweet October day.

Thanks for being in front of my lens and for letting me help you celebrate this moment in your life.

P.S. "tahna, tahna, tahna!!!"
