Madison's Birthday Bash Photo Shoot (Post Two)

Mds7

Things I learned from my photo shoot with Madison:

-Ask Mom for a couple cans of pop so you can pause between every shot, shouting to no one in
particular: "Take Five!!"
-it's a little crazy to photograph somebody jumping on a trampoline...while you're on it too!!
-if you're in need of inspiration, try singing the Eveready battery' jingle! (this is what I get for changing batteries in the strobe on one of our 'take five' moments)
-do not attempt to spin a hula hoop around your waist...while jumping ON the trampoline! (otherwise,
your photo shoot may be interrupted for a visit from the sports medicine dude!!)
-when in need of energy for various jumping, leaping and wiggling adventures, ingest several tootsie
rolls in quick succession (I never thought of that as power food but apparently it works if you're twelve!)

Happy Birthday Madison!!! (Post One)

Everybody sing!

We thought it would be great to reward Madison with a full-blown photo shoot designed to capture her life for her twelfth birthday. I'm not sure who had more fun...Madison or me! A drive through the countryside to the photo shoot, lots of pink to use as our dominant color theme and the perfect, totally- entertaining model to work with.

How come my birthday bashes were never this much fun??!

P is for Payton...and for Prelude

Payton246_3

Get set. It's the prelude to the summer children's series. A blossoming, enchanting, endearing foretaste of the 100 Days of Summer at Ron Rouse Photography.

And what better way to start than with Payton simply being Payton.

The Great, Epic Leap Year Snowball Fight

Sooo...how come they are always hiding behind the photographer for cover from inbound snowballs???

I need to start wearing snowmobile suits to my sessions...

Boys Will Be Boys...Starring: Jaxon and Jaeger

We're shooting for the annual family children's coffee table book and I'm thinking...er, I'm gonna get cold and wet!

But hey, that is what being a boy is all about isn't it?? Sooo...the guys and I played king of the hill, sledding by utilizing the seat of your pants ('cus, apparently, sleds are for wimps!) and...well, the rest...

...you'll just have to check back tomorrow for that!

A Summertime Dream...

Sometimes, the beauty in the image is inherently embodied in a sense of mystery. Something that stirs emotions within...even independent of expression, perhaps even a sense of place.

That thought is all the more poignant now when we're so far from summer.

Enjoy this dosage of hope.

My Reward

You know...in spite of all the amazing images and epiphany-like moments that arise from a children's session, this is perhaps as much if not more of a lingering reward at the end of the day.

Thank you for the picture, Sasha.

P.S. But, do I really have a yellow head?? Mmmm...perhaps one would like to think that I shine like the sun!! (If anyone has ever seen me crabby, there goes that thought...)

Mick

Mick8_2

This was a record session! Normally, we're talking sixty to ninety minutes for a children's documentary session. Well, enter a North Dakota wind and temperatures barely above the freezing mark. Even with the shelter of the pines, it was horrific weather! So, I am proud to say we wrapped it in less than five minutes! Amazing what you can come up with when you have to...

By the way, Mick is not only a great model in front of the camera but a budding photographic assistant! He really got into holding the big light reflector for his sister's pictures...well, that is, at least for a minute or two, until the thot of watching PBS Television's "Fetch with Ruff Ruffman" seemed like a more entertaining idea.

But, hey, I understand these things; I'm a fan of Ruff's too, you know...

Josh

It's all in the expression.

Try and pose a child and you get what you invoke: something artificial and uninspired. Instead, what resonates with people the most is seeing an image that is natural and not contrived. That's a pretty simple secret for success.

It didn't hurt either when I stood up and bashed my head into the hanging plant, unleashing an unceasing tide of giggles from Josh.

Hey...whatever it takes. There's always aspirin, you know...

Sasha's Collage

Yet another feature of my favorite Russian-American supermodel!

This series is from the opening moments of the session, when I sat with Sasha on tiny little chairs in the alcove and we talked of all the important things in life...like pig tails, tigger and eor, tea from a samovar and the joy of having noodles with our tea!
