It's all about The Brand, you know...

Now this is how you do a Wedding:

Wed5

I know..you're thinking: rock concert...or wedding??!!

The bride wore a designer original, one of only eight produced worldwide. The crystal chandelier ballroom was donned in the wedding theme of "the enchanted forest". The gourmet dinner was served in multiple courses. A court jester came to entertain the children. A movie on the lives of the bride and groom was shown over dinner and they were "roasted", celebrity style. A twelve-piece orchestra serenaded people on the dance floor, while patrons donned their masks for the masquerade ball. And in the image above, the wedding party entered the reception ballroom as the orchestral score built to a crescendo.

Now, THAT is a wedding.

P.S. Tomorrow, view the decor in the ballroom for "The Enchanted Forest" theme.

P.S. for Shutterbugs! Undeniably, a film commission. NC-400 medium-format, the film of choice. The top image (silhouette) shot as I recall at 1/30 sec. wide open on the F4.5 140 macro lens of the RZ67. The bottom image utilized my traditional medium-format strobe setup: Vivatar 285HV flash diffused by Lumidyne softbox with shutter-dragging.

Let...Go...Varmint!!!

This commission was a hoot...er, as they say in North Dakota!

Meet Chloe...a playful little shhheeeezzzuuuuuu. Evidently, the critter likes to get up close and personal when it comes to having her portrait taken. Well, this is just fine with me...as long as she doesn't start expecting treats as part of the deal! (cus', that's like, not in my contract, you know...)

New Work with Anabelle: The Encore

Okay...should have known we would have to do an encore post when I placed the first image of Anabelle on the blog yesterday. She would be the girl to be picked out of the crowd by blog perusers!

So, by popular demand, some inspiration from: old-school Hollywood glamor, new-school celebrity shooting and collaborating with Anabelle.

Photo People: This may be my last outing with C-41 process black and white films; I am missing the look of the hand/dip and dunk processed films. At least the Ilford XP2 Super shown here is better to print than the Kodak T400-CN. That stuff was a nightmare: on a hand enlarger, a 4&1/2 filter was too little contrast and a 5 was too much. The Ilford did very well with a 3&1/2 filter; nice looking. Still, I'm looking tforward again to printing a TMAX negative with no filter on the enlarger and have it come up beautiful and perfect right away...or scan it with little to no adjustments.

New Work with Anabelle

Brand new film work. Gotta love it.

When the expression and the light come together to formulate one congruous manifestation of the art, there are no words. It's very intense. You're just amped and going with it. And these are the kinds of results that you are rewarded with.

Okay film lovers, you know I write this stuff just for you. Ilford XP2 400 ISO shot on the RZ, 140 lens. What a refreshing break from the Digital SLR. You meter the shot, press the shutter and move on, knowing it will be perfect every time...no worrying about highlights blowing out, no readjusting of exposures, no constant analyzing of histograms. Now that's the way to shoot.

Paige Rocks The House: The Final Edition

Pg0008

Ever try to run with a gymnast? How about running AND photographing at the same time?? A word to the wise: make sure you have been doing plenty of cardio training. And another thing to remember: they only have two settings: still and full speed!!

Gonna let Paige rock the house on our final post of the trilogy with a widely-varied portfolio of more mind-blowing images.

Rock the house, indeed.

Paige Rocks The House: Part Two of Three

Pg00113_2

There is an unmistakable drama to Paige's expressions; she can so call the magic to the surface every single time. It was the perfect match for the inherent power and impact of black and white. As you'll see in each image from this monochromatic portfolio, the absence of color highlights her strength, her sense of form, her dramatic sensibilities.

Even though I endeavor to create something extraordinary on every single shoot, I had set out on this session to create something beyond the norm, something unforgettable, something unabashedly iconic.

Score.

Paige Rocks The House...Part One of Three

Pg0020x

It is extremely rare for me to feature a three-part blog post from a single shoot. But Paige has earned this one.

This is totally in the OMG category.

R

P.S. I'll say more about this shoot tomorrow; but, this is not a time for words. Let the images speak.

The Darkness Before The Dawn

Sky17

There are a lot of sunrise gatherings on Easter weekend. But, I like to find inspiration in the moonlight. In the thought of the dawn that inevitably follows the darkness.

There's your passion weekend post. Happy Easter.

P.S. 3200 ISO handheld at night on the Nikon D300. Nice.

Aly: The After Party, Part Two

I promised you some film scans on a post the other day...and by golly, we aim to deliver! A favorite, awesome shot of Aly in her natural environment...and some technical mumbo-jumbo for all you photographers and photography fans below.

Technical muttering for shutterbugs: One of the very rare instances anywhere that you'll see 3200 ISO film shot on medium format!!!!! The Mamiya RZ67 with 140 lens...loaded with Ilford Delta 3200 120 size film! Have shot it about three times in my life; kinda of a kick to experiment with. But I actually have pushed my favorite black and white film, TMAX 400, to 3200 ISO in 120 size, believe it or not, and the results will blow your mind. Virtually no grain, unlike the Ilford Delta shown here, even at 3200 ISO!! Someday, we'll post tests.
